Lilly Singh, better known by her YouTube name Superwoman, took to social media yesterday to reveal her sexuality.
Singh tweeted to her 5.7M Twitter followers on Sunday February 24, saying: “Female ✅ Coloured ✅ Bisexual ✅”
The big announcement was followed by: “Throughout my life these have proven to be obstacles from time to time. But now I’m fully embracing them as my superpowers.”
She added, “No matter how many ‘boxes’ you check, I encourage you to do the same x”
She shared the same message with her 8.3m Instagram fans.
Lilly Singh is 30 years old, and has been making YouTube videos since 2010. In that time, she has gathered nearly three billion views on the popular IISuperwomanII YouTube channel.
Her mentions are certainly inundated with surprised fans and friends alike right now. The revelation has been welcomed with words of support from the likes of lesbian YouTuber Hannah Hart, bisexual video producer Ashly Perez, and the pansexual star of YouTube series Carmilla, Natasha Negovanlis.
One fan wrote: “I commend you for your courage to speak your truth. I know it wasn’t easy for you, but just know that you have the love and support of so many people. Sending Love from a Female ✅ African-American ✅ Lesbian ✅”
Another supporter said: “Love you Lilly! Love always wins!”
Singh went on to thank her fans for their positive response to the news, tweeting, “Thank you so much for the love and positivity. Words can’t describe how much it means. I appreciate you all. Group hug ❤❤❤❤ 😊”
Lilly Singh is following in the footsteps of other popular YouTubers such as Anna Akana and Andrea Russett, who have both also come out as bisexual online recently.
