Raindance means Raindance
BY SOPHIE GRIFFITHS
Raindance Film Festival is the UK’s biggest independent film festival, and this year they have their very own Queer Strand especially dedicated to celebrating the stories of LGBTQI people.
Today, they announced the full programme of films that will be shown over the twelve days of Raindance, which is packed with new and emerging talent and full of queer stories.
2019 is the festival’s 27th year of supporting independent, new and alternative filmmakers. This year is especially brilliant for diversity and inclusion as the dedicated Queer Strand takes top billing.
The festival is set to open with the world premiere of Krow’s TRANSformation, documenting trans fashion model Krow Kian.
And that’s just the beginning! The rest of the festival incorporates a broad spectrum of queer cinema, showcasing honest narratives from the community’s perspective.
Queer love stories will be shown on screen and the fight for a female gaze in erotic content will continue as one third of the films on the programme are made by women behind the camera – not just in front of it.

Speaking of the festival, founder Elliot Grove said: “Raindance champions the underdog, the marginalised and the independent minded.” We like the sound of that!
These two films, along with TRANSformation, sound particularly special:
Queering The Script examines the relationship between fandom and activism, documenting the rising power of fans and audiences in shaping LGBTQI representation on TV.
Family In Transition, showcases the story of a family in a small town in Israel, whose lives change completely after their father finally tells them that she’s a transgender woman.
