We take a look at why Timothée has made it big in the queer community…
BY SOPHIE GRIFFITHS
If you know Timothée Chalamet, it’s probably from his breakout film, Call Me By Your Name. In it, he plays Elio, who embarks on a journey of sexual discovery with his father’s intern for the summer. He managed to steal our hearts by being dangerously charming and playing his bisexual role so perfectly.
It’s gloriously queer and was one of the best LGBTQI films of 2017, mainly garnering attention because of *that* famous peach scene.
Ever since, Timothée has been a big name within the LGBTQI community. He has captivated queer audiences and we’re here to tell you why he’s such a lez/bi icon. 🍑
Timothée Chalamet’s hair is great. Those thick and shiny locks fall perfectly onto his wonderfully structured face.
Women, specifically queer women, have taken inspiration from the young actor to get Timothée Chalamet inspired haircuts.
We can certainly see why – it’s got that androgynous feeling to it that is soft and disheveled at the same time.
There’s a fab article here where three women reveal their experiences of getting the Timmy haircut. Excuse us while we call up our hairdressers…
He has starred alongside some of our fave leading ladies
No, we’re not jealous at all. Timothée Chalamet has got to act alongside the likes of Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever as well as Saoirse Ronan and Emma Watson in the upcoming remake of Little Women.
The new film adaptation will allegedly explore the original novel’s queer subtext. Louisa May Alcott, who wrote Little Women, is thought to have possibly been queer herself. She never married, and her avatar Jo is a woman who dismissed femininity, preferring to wear men’s clothing.
Jo’s friendship with Timothée’s character Laurie also adds another level of queerness to the story.
Director Greta Gerwig told Vanity Fair: “They find each other before they’ve committed to a gender. It wouldn’t be wrong to call Saoirse handsome and Timothée beautiful. Both have a slightly androgynous quality that makes them perfect for these characters.”
How can we forget this iconic look? Clad in what was called a “sex harness”, Timmy looked fit to be the next DIVA cover star at this year’s Golden Globes.
He told Ellen DeGeneres: “I thought it was a bib – they told me it was a bib.” You’re not fooling anyone, Timothée.
He doesn’t tend to conform to the Hollywood red-carpet rule book whenever he’s at these sort of events, and there’s something queer about his defiance of the norm when it comes to his fashion choices.
His 1980s inspired wardrobe in Call Me By Your Name was also a huge queer hit. Everyone went wild for the vintage shirt from the final scene (you know, the one with the faces on it) and it became a very sought after fashion piece.
He shows plenty of support for the LGBTQI community

His biggest show of support was giving $1000 to New York’s LGBTQI Center at the Golden Globes. He was told in an interview on the red carpet that he could give the money to a charity of his choice. Without hesitation, he made his decision and the clip of the moment above is hilariously heartwarming.
Oh, Timothée, you really are a queer icon. 🌈
