Love Gentleman Jack? Love festive fun? This one’s for you…
BY SOPHIE GRIFFITHS
Grab your gal and some mistletoe and get yourself to Halifax this winter! To mark the last few weeks of Shibden Hall’s most successful season yet, the venue will be holding its very own magical Winter Craft Fair right where the legendary lesbian Anne Lister lived.
The event will take place 16 and 17 November (10am to 4pm) and it sounds like a great way to celebrate the difference that the TV show has made since it was brought onto our screens this year.
There will be plenty of unique gifts to buy, local produce to try and a festive atmosphere welcoming you into the historic home of Anne Lister at a reduced price. What more could you want?
Visitor numbers have trebled since Shibden featured in Sally Wainwright’s BBC and HBO series, Gentleman Jack, which told the story of Anne Lister – lesbian, scholar, traveller, businesswoman and landowner – to the world.
Susan Press, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, said:
“We’re overwhelmed by the incredible and far-reaching impact of Gentleman Jack. The TV series has showcased Calderdale’s distinctiveness to the world, leading to unprecedented visitor numbers to Shibden and beyond.”
“It has secured our place on the map as a major cultural, LGBTQ and heritage destination, not only boosting the local economy, but also having a profound, personal impact on the lives of many people across the globe.”
The fair will be one of the last chances to go inside Shibden Hall before it closes for winter (and the filming of series number two!) on Tuesday 24 December until Monday 2 March 2020.
This is your final warning to get your last Gentleman Jack fix before it’s ripped away from us until the next series. Don’t miss out and take a look at what’s on offer here! 🎁
