Model and social activist to headline South Yorkshire’s SheFest fringe festival
BY DANIELLE MUSTARDE
Sheffield’s reyt wonderful (that’s really wonderful) fringe festival celebrating and promoting gender equality SheFest is back for 2020 – just in time for International Women’s Day.
This year’s festival will headlined by Munroe Bergdorf, recently appointed UN Women UK Changemaker and working on the #DrawALine campaign, dedicated to “ending violence against women and girls everywhere.”
What’s happening at SheFest 2020?
Taking place at the University Of Sheffield Students’ Union, SheFest will cover everything from gender, race and identity, to navigating life and a career as a trans woman in the public eye. There will also be a Q&A session, where audience members will have the opportunity to take the floor and ask Munroe Bergdorf their own burning questions.
“We are thrilled to bring Munroe to Sheffield for our first ‘In Conversation with’ event,” Nitya Teagarajan, one of the co-founders of SheFest says.
“It is more important than ever that our feminism is intersectional and inclusive and we hope hearing from Munroe will inspire and empower people to challenge inequality.”
As well as Munroe, SheFest have put on a variety of events for all the family taking place from the 5-15 March 2020 across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster. In short, think features, film, theatre, live music and more – there’s something for everybody.
Tickets for In Conversation With Munroe Bergdorf are on sale now, priced at £12-16 via Tickets for Good. For more information about SheFest and to find the full programme of events, head to shefest.org.uk
SheFest is a not-for-profit organisation made up of local volunteers. Founded in 2016, by a small group of female social entrepreneurs, since then, they have been championing self-defining women’s rights and gender equality.
