Olympic superstar and DIVA favourite, Nicola Adams had some exciting news this week and we couldn’t be more thrilled for the Leeds-born boxing champion.
Nicola Adams OBE has been awarded a new redesigned £20 bank note with her image on it. Nicola was so excited that she took to her Instagram story to celebrate the news.
“I’m on the front of a £20 note. That’s when you know you’ve made it,” said the Olympic gold medalist. She added, “’Anger is an unnecessary emotion’. Look at that. Yeah, love that. Live by that,” when she spotted her famous motto included in the artwork on the note.
A banknote with her award-winning grin is the least this Olympic champ deserves.
At the London 2012 Olympics, she made history by becoming the first ever female boxer to win a gold medal. And how do she follow that success? By winning a consecutive gold medal at Rio 2016, of course.
Not only did she earn herself double bragging rights, she also earned herself the title of the first female boxer to become a double Olympic champion.
The news comes as part of the Great British Bank Notes series, covering cities across the UK that have been voted for by the public. The redesigned £20 note features the Team GB boxer, and a series of hidden security features that are all hidden clues about Nicola Adams herself.
The extra security features include Olympic Rings in the Olympic colours, two Olympic gold medals, the postcode in Leeds where there are two golden letter boxes marking Nicola’s Olympic success, and the number “2012” – the year when she collected her Olympic gold medal.
Some other big names representing their cities include: Dame Judi Dench for York, Lewis Capaldi for Glasgow and Noel Gallagher for Manchester.
