Who knew it would be Kristen Stewart of all people who would come along and save 2020? If there’s one thing that’s going to get us through the next few months as the nights get colder and the need for queer films grows stronger, K Stew is bringing some festive joy into our lives.
Last week, in a new feature from People magazine, the cast and crew offered us a first look at the Christmas rom-com that’s set to hit screens this November. It’s an actual Christmas miracle.
Kristen plays Abby, a woman who is set to propose to her girlfriend at Christmas. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Davis plays her love interest, Harper, a woman with conservative parents who is yet to come out to her family. As you can imagine, plenty of drama and hilarious moments unfold with this classic queer storyline.
Kristen explained: “I love when a holiday movie makes you long for an idea of home, but also examines how hilarious and hard reality being at home can be sometimes.”
“I think I’ve wished to see a gay Christmas rom com my whole life… I’m so happy and proud of Clea for bringing this into the world.”
Oh, and did we mention that it’s directed by queer cinema icon Clea DuVall? From a starring in role in But I’m A Cheerleader, to bringing us a well-deserved queer Christmas rom-com, Clea is a certified lez legend.
The movie also stars Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Burl Moseley, Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, Alison Brie, and co-writer Mary Holland.
Happiest Season is set to be released 27 November. Christmas is coming early folks! 🎄🎁
