Olympic boxer and Strictly Come Dancing contestant for 2020, Nicola Adams OBE has just come out as a lesbian after identifying as bisexual throughout her career.
It was just last week that Nicola hit the headlines with the news that she would be part of Strictly Come Dancing’s first ever same-sex couple on the show this year.
As various outlets reported on this huge news, Nicola was referred to as both bisexual and lesbian, with many clearly unsure of how Nicola identifies.
Nicola took to Twitter to clarify her sexuality, announcing: “I’m lesbian not bi, just saying.”

She first came out as bisexual when she was a teenager, telling GQ: “It was quite a scary thought for me at the time. I knew one other person in my school who was the same and we talked. We hadn’t come out.”
The 37-year-old retired from boxing last year, after bringing home the gold at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic games. Hailing from Leeds, Nicola was awarded an OBE in 2017 for her contributions to British sport, and her success has helped push forward LGBTQI representation in sport.
With so many female professional dancers completing the 2020 line-up, it seems Katya Jones, 31, is very interested in partnering with the Nicola when the competition kicks off next month.
A source explained: “Katya has been telling everyone on the show how keen she is to be paired with Nicola.
“She’s a huge believer in girl power and thinks they’d make a great team and be a hit with the viewers at home.”
