Reactions were mixed as we got our first glimpse at season four of The Crown

Twitter blew up yesterday after catching a glimpse of the first images released from season four of The Crown. One image in particular got us talking more than the rest, though.

The image in question shows Gillian Anderson posing outside 10 Downing Street in costume as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Wearing a bouffant wig and the classic Thatcher look of a blue skirt suit, the image appears to recreate Margaret Thatcher’s arrival at Number 10 after she became the UK’s first female Prime Minister following the general election in May 1979.

“As the 1970s are drawing to a close, Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family find themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), who is still unmarried at 30,” reads the accompanying Netflix synopsis.

It continues: “As the nation begins to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain’s first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), tensions arise between her and the Queen which only grow worse as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth.”

Fans took to Twitter to express their feelings upon seeing Gillian Anderson dressed as The Iron Lady, and there were some gems. Check out some of our favourite reactions below.

Series four of The Crown will be available to stream on Netflix from 15 November.
