Clea DuVall talks to Carrie Lyell about Christmas, coming out, and her new film, Happiest Season in our December issue
INTERVIEW BY CARRIE LYELL, IMAGE VIA ART STREIBER
It’s the Happiest Season of all! Yes, that’s right, bonafide lesbian royalty Clea DuVall has graced the comeback cover of DIVA like the legend she. We’ve loved her since her But I’m A Cheerleader days, and now she’s got her own cult classic to offer up that’s sure to jingle your bells. We’ve been waiting all year to feast our eyes on her queer rom-com Happiest Season, and it’s a Christmas wish come true to have Clea on the cover.
Clea DuVall on…
“Coming out is challenging and personal. However it happens and however you get there, that’s your journey.”
Changing the industry
“I want to be more socially responsible in the stories that I tell, the characters that I create and the way I choose to tell those stories.”
Directing Happiest Season
“I definitely tried to create an environment with the actors in this film where they could be vulnerable and where they could give everything and [know] that they would be supported, respected and taken care of. I think that led to some really mind blowing performances. The cast in this movie is so good. Everyone is so phenomenal.”
PLUS the queer film icon spills the tea about working with an all star LGBTQI cast line-up.
