The DIVA Awards is back for 2021 to help celebrate and uplift LGBTQI women, and we need you to help us choose our winners 🌈
BY DIVA STAFF
Celebrities and campaigners who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to equality and diversity over the past year will be rewarded at the annual DIVA Awards during Lesbian Visibility Week. We want to celebrate and uplift LGBTQI women and allies with this seriously special shortlist for 2021, but we need your help to do so. With a packed list of stand-out brands and individuals, the DIVA Awards are calling upon members of the public to cast their votes for winners.
One of the most hotly anticipated events in the lesbian calendar, the annual DIVA Awards are a no-holds-barred celebration of the achievements of gay, bisexual and trans women – and their allies – across business, the media, politics and sport. This awards ceremony will play a huge role in the Lesbian Visibility Week programme for 2021. After postponing last year’s event due to the national UK lockdown, this year’s online celebration is set to be bigger and better than ever. Even if we can’t celebrate together in person, we’re gonna make sure we do it virtually in style.
Lesbians and bisexual women are becoming increasingly visible, with politicians, media stars, authors, sportswomen and business leaders all demonstrating that determination and talent can overcome prejudice. These amazing women serve as role models to the generations who follow them, and everyone at DIVA is delighted that clued-up corporates recognise the value and importance of the DIVA demographic.
The shortlist announced today, nominated by members of the public, includes big LGBTQI names and allies such as Sarah Paulson, Rose and Rosie, Sinitta and Lady Phyll, as well as brands that are dedicated to serving the LGBTQI community such as Converse, Spotify and Deliveroo.
A series of major awards are up for grabs this year including Actor of the Year, Musician of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, the DIVA Lifetime Achievement Award and the coveted accolade of the DIVA Choice Award.
Previous winners include Dodie Clark, Sandi Toksvig, Suranne Jones and Michelle Hardwick.
Commenting on this year’s event, DIVA Publisher Linda Riley said: “I am so proud to be releasing the shortlist for this year’s DIVA Awards, as nominated by our readers. It’s incredibly inspiring to see such diversity in the range of individuals and organisations involved.
“I believe that during this challenging time we’re all experiencing, it’s more important than ever to come together and celebrate as a community. So make sure you vote for your favourites and watch the digital ceremony which will be held during Lesbian Visibility Week.”
