Some positive news, for once

At a time when transphobia seems to have taken over the news and our social media feeds, it’s important to use Transgender Day of Visibility as an opportunity to celebrate and elevate trans lives, trans creativity and trans resilience and showcase some of the amazing work that’s being done in the fight for trans equality.

Here are six trans-related good news stories we think you should know about.

Just Like Us, a charity for LGBTQI young people, surveyed 3,000 pupils aged between 11-18 years and found that 84% would support a friend if they came out as trans. More than half (54%) said they already have a friend who is trans.

A survey of trans employee experiences found that 65% of the 400 trans employees surveyed have had to hide their trans status at work, while 32% have experienced workplace discrimination in the last five years. The good news is that Totaljobs, who commissioned the research, have now teamed up with Sparkle – The National Transgender Charity – and activists Fox Fisher and Ugla Stefanía Kristjönudóttir Jónsdóttir, to provide advice for employers and trans employees.

The lovely team at Gendered Intelligence have curated a list of actions for trans, non-binary and gender-non-conforming people and their allies, to celebrate TDOV2021.

Trans kids’ charity, Mermaids, has launched its Active About Inclusion campaign for trans inclusion in sport.
