LGBTQI people have always faced obstacles when it comes to employment and with the rise in unemployment caused by the pandemic it is more essential than ever that we have myGwork helping the community by working with LGBTQI professionals and students to connect them with inclusive employers, find jobs, mentors, professional events and news.
The organisation has just secured £1.6 million in the latest funding round led by 24Haymarket to grow its user base and continue its international expansion plans. The funds are in addition to the £0.75 million secured by myGwork last year thanks to the private capital firm’s network of investors. Since 2014, the platform has already been doing great work to reach a wider audience and serve the worldwide community. Pearson’s Senior HR Manager, Kevin Lyons, confirmed that in the first year of its partnership with myGwork, the company “recruited 692 wonderful colleagues across the globe from Europe, USA, UK, Latin America, Asia Pacific to the Middle East, into the Pearson family from myGwork.”
Over the last year myGwork have been fierce allies for DIVA magazine and our community of LGBTQI women and non-binary people by partnering with DIVA for Lesbian Visibility Week, sponsoring the DIVA awards and contributing a supplement in our May issue as well as providing regular articles for our website to shine a light on some of the amazing people within our community. Through working with them and seeing their growing success over the years, we are more than excited for what this funding will mean for their potential to reach a wider audience of people who can benefit from their services.
myGwork’s founders and brothers, Pierre and Adrien Gaubert, were recently featured in the 2021 Global Diversity List on account of to the company’s growth and the team’s swift response to the pandemic through innovative servces such as online training and events.
Adrien (CMO) stated: “Despite the global pandemic, we have been able to continue along an accelerated growth trajectory by being flexible, and pivoting our offering to meet changing customer needs and adapt to the challenging global operating environment.”
And Pierre (CEO) added: “Both our #WorkPride and #WorkFair events this year were a huge success – and promise to be even bigger and better next year.”
“Given that as many as a third LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people still feel the need to hide/disguise their identity at work for fear of discrimination, LGBTQ+ platforms like myGwork are vital to showcase inclusive employers that not only offer training/support to ensure all LGBTQ+ staff are made to feel welcome with open arms, but also offer zero tolerance discrimination policies. This funding will ensure that our platform continues to create initiatives that will help LGBTQ+ women and non-binary professionals to access opportunities at diverse and inclusive workplaces,” stated Pierre and Adrien Gaubert.
“And of course, myGwork will continue to provide employers with diverse and talented LGBTQ+ professionals. Our platform shows that there are plenty of qualified LGBTQ+ women and non-binary professionals across all industries – employers just need to be willing to engage with them,” they highlighted. “I’m delighted that this funding will go towards creating an environment where women and non-binary people can flourish in the workplace. The LGBTQ+ community deserves to feel safe and supported in all aspects of their lives and this is one part of helping create a world where exactly that is possible,” added Zoe Schulz, Head of Content at myGWork.
