For this year’s Lesbian Visibility Week, Stonewall and The LOL Word are hosting an evening of brilliant LGBTQI comedy with talent including Jodie Mitchell, Chloe Petts and sketch duo, Shelf. The gig will take place on 27 April at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green and all proceeds will go towards Stonewall’s vital work. DIVA is delighted to be partnering with Stonewall for this event.
The LOL Word is a queer collective “transforming comedy”, curating a fabulous line-up of the UK’s best female and non-binary comedians, with some very special guests to be confirmed in the coming weeks. They promise all the topical, inclusive and patriarchy-punching humour you could ever need. Guests will also have the chance to enter and win some exciting prizes by entering the event’s raffle – with all proceeds going towards Stonewall’s vital work for the LGBTQI community.
The LOL Word was founded in 2016 by five friends who were bored of the male-dominated industry, naming themselves after the well-loved queer TV series, The L Word. Since then, they have hosted sell-out runs at The Edinburgh, Brighton and Cambridge Fringe Festivals, The Southbank Centre and VAULT Festival, attracting crowds with the promised escape from cis-male comics and insight into the performers’ relatable experiences with misogyny and homophobia.
The core members who will be present at Stonewall’s event include Jodie Mitchell, a witty non-binary comedian and Drag King, Chloe Petts, known for her trademark “laddishness”, and Shelf, a double act who blend stand-up with musical comedy.
The LOL Word’s refreshing takes have earned rave reviews and fans throughout the LGBTQI community. In an interview with DIVA in 2021, they said they aim to create a night-out full of “the most relatable queer content you have ever seen in your life.”
Co-founder Jodie Mitchell said that their shows have “a euphoric party atmosphere in which a bunch of gays can watch comedy in the knowledge that it will be free from any punching down.”
Tickets are available here for £23.92 per person. We’ll see you there!
