Let us know who you think has made great strides for the LGBTQI community this Lesbian Visibility Week

BY DIVA STAFF

As part of our Lesbian Visibility Week, launching this April, here at DIVA we want to pay tribute to the celebrities, campaigners and brands who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to amplifying the voices of women loving women.

To do this, we’re launching the Visible Lesbian 100. That’s right, 100 women whose work has made women loving women that little bit more prominent in the public eye. And the best bit? You get to decide who makes it onto the list.

Our aim is to celebrate lesbian culture and show solidarity with all women in our community, while at the same time acknowledging the significant challenges we still face in 2020. It’s a statement of unity; part of a movement which lifts up those who are most marginalised.

The list will be published in a special supplement in the Guardian on Monday 20 April, kicking off a week of special events for Lesbian Visibility Week which culminates in the spectacular DIVA Awards, taking place at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Friday 24 April.

DIVA Media Group’s Linda Riley said: “DIVA has provided visibility for LBGTQI women on the newsstands for almost 26 years. Now, in launching the Visible Lesbian 100 as part of Lesbian Visibility Week, we are delighted to be shining an even brighter light on our lives and experiences, building on that success with a week of inclusive events to recognise, amplify and celebrate all in our community.”

Visibility is hard to quantify – it means different things to different people. The truth is, there is no one way to be visible. But we want to celebrate those who, loudly and proudly, or quietly and without ceremony, have in some way made life easier for the rest of us.

The truth of the matter is: there is no one correct way to be visible but we want to celebrate those who go out there and dedicate their work to our community, loudly and proudly.

Let us know who you want recognised on our list of the top 100 Visible women. Whether you want to nominate an amazing individual, or the LGBTQI celeb you’ve been crushing on, we’ve got room for them in the following categories:

Large Business

Small Business SMEs

Charity

Community or NFP

Public Sector / Politics

  1. The list is a good idea, but I don’t understand why you have chosen to publish the results in The Guardian, a newspaper that frequently publishes transphobic articles.
